General Requirements

Health Empirics accepts original manuscripts aligned with our Aims & Scope throughout the year. All submissions must meet the following requirements:

  • Manuscripts must be written in proper English (American or British usage consistently)
  • Only Microsoft Word files (.doc, .docx) are accepted for submission
  • Recommended length: 4,000-8,000 words (including references and appendices)
  • Complete submissions must include: Title, Author name(s) and affiliation(s), Abstract, Keywords, Main text, References, and any Tables, Figures or Appendices
  • Self-citation should be limited to a maximum of 5% of total references
  • AI-generated text must be explicitly declared if used in any portion of the manuscript
Manuscript Structure
Title Page
  • Title: Concise and informative
  • Short Title (if any): 20 words maximum
  • Author names and affiliations: Full names and institutional affiliations
  • Corresponding author: Email address and ORCID (if available). Please provide the ORCIDiD for any author who has one. At a minimum, the first, senior, and corresponding authors arerequired to have an ORCID iD. Ideally, all authors should obtain one, as registration is freeand facilitates linking this and future manuscripts to their professional profiles.
Abstract
  • 200-250 words structured under the headings: Background, Methods, Results, Conclusion
Keywords
  • 4-8 keywords that represent the main content of the article
  • Listed in alphabetical order below the abstract
Main Text
  • Introduction: Research context, objectives, and significance
  • Methods: Study design, data sources, analytical approach
  • Results: Key findings without interpretation
  • Discussion: Interpretation, implications, limitations
  • Conclusion: Summary and recommendations
Article Structure
  • Clearly defined sections with appropriate headings and subheadings
  • Section headings should be bold, hierarchically numbered (1., 1.1., 1.1.1.)
  • Acknowledgements: Brief acknowledgements of assistance or support not warranting

Note : Not all CRediT roles will apply to every manuscript, and some authors may contribute through multiple roles

Funding Sources
  • All sources of funding must be clearly stated
  • Include grant numbers where applicable
  • Specify the role of funders in study design, data collection, analysis, interpretation, andmanuscript preparation
References
  • Follow APA 7th edition citation style in alphabetical order
  • All references must be cited in the text and vice versa
  • Use of DOIs are recommended
In-text Citations

Follow APA 7th edition style for in-text citations :

  • Use author-date format (e.g., Smith & Jones, 2025).
  • For multiple authors: List up to two names followed by "et al." for three or more authors (e.g., Smith et al., 2025).
Formatting
  • Paper size: A4
  • Margins: 2.5 cm (1 inch) on all sides
  • Line spacing: 1.5 throughout
  • Font: Times New Roman, 12-point
  • Headings: Bold, hierarchically numbered (1., 1.1., 1.1.1.)
Tables
  • Numbered consecutively as they appear in the text (Table 1, Table 2)
  • Each table must have a concise title placed above the table
  • Include explanatory notes below the table if necessary
  • Use tables for presenting precise values, not for illustrating trends
  • Tables should be editable (not pasted as images)
  • Vertical lines should be avoided; use horizontal lines sparingly
  • Each table must be cited in the text
Figures, Images and Artwork
  • Numbered consecutively as they appear in the text (Figure 1, Figure 2)
  • Each figure must have a concise caption placed below the figure
  • Minimum resolution of 300 dpi for all figures and images
  • Acceptable file formats: TIFF, JPEG, EPS, PDF
  • Line drawings should be supplied at 1000 dpi
  • Color figures should be supplied in RGB format for online publication
  • All figures must be cited in the text
  • Legends should be included within the figure itself where possible
  • Authors are responsible for obtaining permission for any copyrighted material
Supplementary Material
  • Materials not essential to understanding the manuscript but providing additional value
  • May include datasets, additional tables/figures, video material, animations
  • Must be cited in the main text using the format "Supplementary Material S1"
  • Each supplementary item requires a concise caption
  • Supplementary material will be published online only
  • Should be submitted with the original manuscript in a separate clearly marked file
Submission Process
Initial Submission
  • Submit complete manuscript as a single Word document
  • Email submissions to: submissions@healthempirics.org
  • Subject line: "HE Submission: [Brief Title]"
  • Include cover letter addressing:
    • Manuscript originality and non-submission elsewhere
    • Relevance to journal scope
    • Conflicts of interest declaration
    • Compliance with ethical guidelines
Review Process
  • Initial desk review within one week
  • Peer review decisions within six weeks
  • Authors may track submission status through the online portal
Revised Submissions
  • Must be submitted within four weeks of decision
  • Include point-by-point response to reviewer comments
  • Highlight changes in the revised manuscript
Final Submission Upon Acceptance
  • Final manuscript with all revisions incorporated
  • High-resolution figures (minimum 300 dpi)
  • Completed copyright transfer form
  • Author agreement to publication ethics
